SUPPORTING ADHD ADULTS TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL
ADULT ADHD COACHING
You have a brilliant, unique brain.
Which, let’s be honest can often get in the way of us feeling and achieving what we are truly capable of. Coaching helps you to understand your own brilliant, uniquely wired brain.
ADHD manifests in both strengths and challenges in everyone who has it. Creating a better understanding of your ADHD will empower you with the knowledge and understanding of how your ADHD gets in the way, and how you can use your unique strengths and abilities. This gives you the opportunity to create the changes and make the progress towards achieving what you truly want in life.
Experts see ADHD as a series of ‘Executive Function’ challenges. This is where the brain is often not as effective as we would like when trying to plan, organise, remember, initiate and self-regulate. These cognitive abilities are what we use every day in life, at work and in social situations.
Working with a coach supports you to understand what the challenges are and how to create strategies that can work for you to strengthen and feel more in control in those areas. ADHDers have many incredible strengths, unfortunately we are often just not always good at recognising them. Coaching is strengths focused, we will explore what your skills and super powers are and support you to move away from the negative voices that hold you back and into a positive space - keeping you working towards creating the life you want to achieve.
You do not need to have an ADHD diagnosis to work with me. If you feel you identify with ADHD traits and feel coaching can help, you are very welcome.
Achieve Your Goals (that’s right it is possible!)
A coach will partner with you to help you to manage the daily challenges that get in your way and will also shine a light on the wider picture of what is going on.
For ADHDers it is essential that your ‘ machine ‘ is working to be at your best. Getting enough sleep, eating well, exercise - all contribute to the combined success of what you want to achieve. We take a holistic approach in coaching - we will look at the whole you to ensure the greatest success.
Common ADHD challenges that we can work on together include:
managing ruminating thoughts and negative mind chatter
loss of confidence
managing impulsivity
lack of emotional regulation
overcoming procrastination
managing perfectionism
improving social skills
managing self care
improving work life balance
changing career
What can I expect from coaching?
-
Having a better understanding of your ADHD, understanding the strengths it gives you and also the challenges it creates is the first step in making your ADHD brain work for you.
-
ADHD Coaching is strengths focused. We will spend some time on understanding what your natural strengths are and how to use them. We will also explore what keeps you motivated and interested - this is essential for the ADHD brain!
-
ADHD can present us with challenges, alongside a belief system that we created as children and still carry with us. This can hold us back and keep us playing small. We will break these challenges down to create more understanding and awareness, enabling you to move forwards.
-
There is no cookie cutter approach to coaching and what works for one person will not work for the next. Coaching helps you to work out solutions and map out new strategies to help you be at your best. I will support you on this and where relevant will share known tools and strategies that could help.
-
Many ADHDers don’t realise that ADHD is a deficit of Executive Function. Once you have an understanding of this and we identify the areas of EF that need attention and support, we can work on strengthening those areas to help you feel more more in control and confident.
-
Many ADHDers face social challenges. This could be primarily in a work situation or in general. Coaching in this area helps you to create the strategies and gain the confidence to take steps forward that would otherwise feel too daunting and overwhelming.
How do I start?
I recommend coaching either weekly or fortnightly and to keep things simple we will usually stick to the same session time on the same day each week.
I recommend committing to a minimum of 6 sessions for all new clients as coaching is not a quick fix. Most clients continue to work with me beyond this.
Sessions last for 1 hour and you have access to me via email in between sessions for additional support.
I do regular check in’s my clients if they would like this to help keep them accountable between sessions.
Additional exercises are offered as necessary between sessions for those that would like them - this can really help provide further clarity and focus.
Coaching is bespoke - there is no cookie cutter approach and we will create a plan that works for you and that will help you to get the most out of our time together.
